this is a pretty piss poor update personally, but it sounded like too much fun to put off till i actually write something.

I've gone through some pretty lame handles since I hit the internet like a flaming sack of crap in 1996.

please understand laughing IS allowed.

1996:  chldprodigy@juno.com         this was my very first email address.  juno was new and shiny and i wanted an email address.  it was free too!  which was kinda  a big deal back then.  plus, you didnt have to stay online to check your mail, you just dialed up long enough to send/receive and it was done.  when i set my prepubescent self down to pick an address, nothing i liked worked.  i dont remember things i tried.  but at long last i had my mispelled self glorifying email address to hand out to all my middle school friends who probably were unimpressed.  i dont miss you, comma handle.

1999:  Stratim Shadowsbane       The dwarven cleric was born in the dark ages of mmorpgs known as Everquest.  I remember long nights on our 56k modem traversing the Vastly Detailed world of Norrath.  My cleric never achieved very high levels, but hey, i was like 12 years old.  unfortunately, this name was too obviously gamer related for me to be comfortable using it as a handle for just everything.  not everyone is as lucky as Grifflet. I still use this handle for game related things sometimes. 

2001:  inaway@quiteafewdifferentthings.com    late one night i was screwing around in a chatroom when i got involved with this nutcase who started telling me stories about things he'd done.   i reported him and the moderator told me he was going to contact the local authorities for Both of us.   at the fresh young age of 14, i had no idea he was just scaring the heck out of me, but it worked.  knowing nothing about IP addresses or any of the other ways i might be found, i figured they'd look up my email address, see my personal info in my juno account, and come for my teenage butt.   so i frantically got offline, and deleted my juno account and everything that went with it.  i had a vague idea juno would be keeping records anyway, but still, what could i do.  well after i had calmed down a bit, i realized i needed a new email address.  I was listening to harry connick jr alot at the time, and i liked the first line of one of his songs "in a way"  which talks about how he's not going anywhere with love.   so thats how it happened

2001-2005:     gumdrop, gerber baby  these were not chosen by me.  my head was supposedly shaped like a gumdrop, and my face looked like the baby on the gerber bottles.   and thus: high school.  these are the only ones on the list that never got used as internet handles

2005  sometime my senior year i got some semblance of an identity and started using MatthewJ as my handle.  I've always liked my middle name "J" and it wasnt always taken.    also in 2005 i joined an EQ2 guild named the Legion of Light, or LoL.  so my name on there was LoLStratim.   i used that a few times.  it was a good guild.

2006:  moved to dyer hall and became the dyergamer dyersophomore dyerlunatic and various other self-created appelations.   they  never caught on, but im okay with that.   who wants to be called a dyer anything to their face anyway?

so there it is, my sad sad history of no-good-nicknames.  someday im sure ill find something that will serve as a gamer handle, email address, internet identity and more.  but it is not this day.

I'm going to buy a nintendo wii with wii sports, zelda: twilight princess, super paper mario, wii-play (with remote), and 2 more remotes and 3 more nunchuks.  next I'll purchase a television.

do i need hidef?  if i do that im looking at about 15 inches.   if i go with CRT i can afford 30.   I'm only ever going to watch dvds and play wii on it.   what do i do??

This quote helped me realize consciously something Ive always known:  That I'm living for myself, and no body has a claim on me.  The needs of others aren't a mortgage on my values.  To me, that makes what I do give mean so much more.  If the elderly use money that was taken from me by the government, what has been said?  that I have no claim to my property and they do.   If I give money willingly, what has been said?  I want you to have this, you deserve it.  The I is the important part.  we can't love others until we love ourselves and are free to give of ourselves as we choose, or not.

What was the worst job you ever had?

I dont really have a worst job ever.  I usually like my job well enough to stick with it for a couple weeks, even if it ought to suck.   I did however keep myself entertained at jack in the box with this song, replacing every word "banana" with the word "ciabatta" (i cant do IPA on here, but its cha-bah-tuh)  i have fond memories of making eggs at 5 am all alone with the grill.  so while it wasnt the worst job ever, it gets the post.

Ever run for office?  (School, club, organization, politics, etc.)  Did you get elected?

I ran for class president in the third grade, and was elected nearly unanimously.   i dont really remember my official responsibilities or powers, but i do remember i had a "bodyguard" of 3 larger boys who would follow me around the playground in case some other jerk wanted to pick a fight (usually a large blonde boy i only remember as "richie").   it was a good year, but i never really got interested in school politics again.

now of course, im only interested in politics so that one day, my children wont have to be interested in politics.
